The Slovácko wine sub-regionThe Slovácko wine sub-regionWines of the northerly wine regions of Europe are valued for their specific beauty and the unmistakable character of refreshing acidity and taste-enriching substances. Natural conditions and the range of varieties in this region are as varied as the local folklore, traditions and customs. The southern part of the subregion comprises the areas of Podluží and Mutěnicko, a dry and warm region in the valleys of the rivers Morava and Kyjovka. Vineyards located at higher altitudes yield full wines of fresh character with distinct aromatic substances. In the centre of the subregion, the town Bzenec is situated – a traditional Moravian wine centre since the Middle Ages. Grapes of White Riesling harvested on the best grapevine tracks in the town and in its environs have borne Bzenecká Lipka, an excellent wine with a fragrance of linden blossoms. The wine industry in the areas of Kyjov and Uherské Hradiště is of a typically northern character. Due to the locations of vineyards, early varieties of grape are the most common, such as Müller-Thurgau or Moravian Muscat, but Pinot Gris and White Riesling from this area are also likely to be of excellent quality. The most important settlement of the northern outpost of the subregion is the village of Polešovice, the seat of a wine cultivation station. The local vineyards were where a new wine variety, the most common cultivar in the former wine subregion of Uherské Hradiště, was bred, the Moravian Muscat variety. The soil and climatic conditions on the southern hillsides at the foothills of the White Carpathians agree with all Burgundian Pinot varieties and Grüner Silvaner. Fields with stony soils and sufficient amounts of sun also yield full and extractive White Riesling. And it was a harmonic combination of the two former varieties that was used to create a highly valued brand-named wine, Blatnický Roháč, something which took place in the settlement of Blatnice pod Sv. Antonínkem. Top | ||||||
